What is Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) was established in 2014 for 0-17 year old children that covers part or the full cost of dental treatment of up to $1132 over 2 consecutive calendar years.

At Timeless Dentistry, we are participating in the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

  • Your Child is eligible for CDBS if:

    • They’re eligible for Medicare

    • They’re 0 and 17 years old at least one day of that calendar year

    • You or they get an eligible payment that calendar year from Services Australia.

  • For each child, $1132 of dental services are covered over two calendar years.

Dental services covered by CDBS include:

    • Check-ups

    • Cleaning

    • Fissure sealants

    • Fillings

    • X-rays

    • Root canals

    • Extractions

  • The services that are not covered are all of the following:

    • orthodontic dental work

    • cosmetic dental work

    • any dental services in a hospital.

  • You can claim up to $1,132 for each eligible child over 2 consecutive calendar years.

The 2 year period starts at the beginning of the calendar year in which your child both:

    • becomes eligible

    • gets their first dental service.

You can use the full amount up to $1,132 for each eligible child in the first calendar year. This will leave no funds for the second year. If you don’t use the full $1,132 in the first year, you can use it in the second year if your child is still eligible.

If you don’t use the full amount within the 2 calendar years, you can’t use the remaining funds. You’ll have to wait for a new 2 year cover period to start.

You also won’t be able to use any remaining funds once your child is no longer eligible.
